Ally Bank Launches Tablet App for Android & Kindle Fire

Ally Bank, a U.S. direct bank, has launched official apps today for the Android and Kindle Fire tablets to join the iPad app that was launched on July 15. The Android app is compatible with all Android tablets on the market, and the Kindle Fire version works with third generation Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HDX tablets.

The modern design incorporates user experience enhancements such as native design and touch navigation, and as a fully featured app it is possible to carry out almost any banking task easily. With it, a user can access account information and balances, deposit checks remotely, schedule transfers among accounts, send payments to Popmoney contacts, pay or manage bills, find ATMs and get support. Some additional tools also allow users to research products, view rates, open new accounts and review scheduled activity in a calendar format.

The app was developed mainly in response to a survey Ally Bank administered to the public regarding mobile device habits. Results showed that 39 percent of consumers surveyed use either a phone or tablet to bank online, and 62 percent of those consumers spend half of their online time using apps instead of a browser.

“Ally Bank places a strong emphasis on making banking convenient and easy for its customers anytime and anywhere, whether it's by phone or online,” said Diane Morais, an Ally Bank executive. “With more customers accessing their accounts via tablet, we saw an opportunity to make the Ally banking experience obviously better for tablet users by developing native apps for the most popular devices.”

These two new tablet apps join a full set of smartphone apps, including Windows Phone, as well as the aforementioned iPad app and a modernized browser experience. Completely free of charge, the apps are available as of today in their respective app stores.
