German Telecom Jumps into Direct Operator Billing Relationship

A mobile commerce solution provider and a German telecommunications company have teamed up to provide customers with increased access to app store purchases through their mobile devices.

Bango, a London-based tech company, announced this week that it will be working with Deutsche Telekom to allow the German company to provide its mobile customers with easier access to direct operator billing procedures that will make mobile payments simpler and more efficient. Direct operator billing works by allowing mobile customers to make purchases on their phones and have their charges for those purchases show up on their mobile phone bills. This can make it easier for customers to buy apps, music, games, and other digital content through app and content stores.

Bango CEO, Ray Anderson, commented on the developing relationship between the two companies.

"Bango is proud to build on our long-established partnership with Deutsche Telekom. This agreement reaffirms Deutsche Telekom's commitment to providing the very best, frictionless payment experience, for the largest possible number of subscribers," Anderson said.

To make it possible for purchases to show up on mobile customers' bills, Deutsche Telekom will be able to hold customer credit card information that it can then access when customers want to buy something. App stores can provide customers with a "purchase" button that does not require them to enter credit card information, and Deutsche Telekom can facilitate transactions that are much simpler than purchases which would require the entering of payment credentials.

Deutsche Telekom's relationship with Bango appears to be a natural progression into the world of mobile payment systems because of Bango's established work with the Amazon, BlackBerry World, Facebook, Firefox Marketplace, Google Play, and Windows Phone app stores.

Bango explains that the scope of the relationship between the two entities marks the importance of the deal. Bango has an established presence in app stores, and Deutsche Telekom provides service for mobile users throughout several European markets. The convenience for customers left unsaid, the size of the partnership here has obvious ramifications for the likes of businesses and consumers alike.
