Mobile Commerce Insider Week in Review

While mobile commerce is quickly gaining a lot of ground as more and more people become comfortable using their mobile devices to shop, there is still something to be said for the old brick and mortar structures that will never cease to exist.

I am one of those people who likes to look up items that I want online and depending of the size and weight, will usually look for a store nearby that I can go and physically make my purchase. This saves me time and shipping costs. That right there opens up the market for location searches. In fact, a new study out from Juniper Research suggests that the local search market is about to take off in grand fashion, and see big gains over the course of the next few years.

Everyone should be familiar with RadioShack. I still go there when I need to buy electronic parts. They have been in the process of sort of re-inventing themselves. The goal is to make the new RadioShack the neighborhood technology resource, equipping consumers with the right product and know-how based on their needs. 

As part of this, Single Touch Systems announced that through its channel partner, AT&T, it has signed RadioShack for its FollowMe location based mobile advertising technology. RadioShack will use Single Touch's mobile ad tech to programmatically deliver targeted ads to consumers within close proximity to thirty of their newly renovated feature stores.

In New York City, thanks to rents being what they are, stores are closing or moving rather quickly and I sometimes can’t find the store that I’m looking for. This is type of move that will ensure customers know that RadioShack is still there.

You know that I couldn’t go a week without talking about Bitcoin! Cryptocurrency is seeing more players lately than just Bitcoin however it does seems to have a bigger reputation. A lot of companies are beginning to accept Bitcoin as legal tender for its goods.

So what do you think would be the next logical progression in using crytocurrency? If you are thinking of something that resembles an ATM card, you are on the mark. Prepaid Bitcoin is a company that is filling that need to take virtual money and put it on a card.

Now I thought that through smartphones, near field communication (NFC) and other mobile technology that we were trying to get away from having more cards in our pocket. I guess that I was wrong. Normally you would have to use your computer to mine Bitcoin, that changes with being able to have a prepaid card.

There are four different dollar denominations that a consumer can easily purchase. They can choose from $10, $25, $50 and $100 Prepaid Bitcoin card denominations. Each card is loaded with the corresponding amount of Bitcoin. For instance, if the Bitcoin current market price is $500, a $25 Prepaid Bitcoin card would hold approximately 0.045 BTC.

Equifax is a global information solutions provider, Jumio, an industry leader in the mobile commerce space that specializes in payments and ID scanning and validation products for mobile and web transactions. This week they announced a partnership.

The joint companies will collaborate to develop a series of solutions for mobile transactions. By integrating Equifax 1-Touch Services with Jumio's proprietary Netverify and Netswipe technology, Equifax will be able to auto-fill the personally identifiable information needed to complete a transaction on a mobile device. Equifax consumer information resources will be used in tandem with Jumio's authentication and validation capabilities.

These are just a few of the stories that we worked on this week. Believe me when I say that I cannot even begin to scratch the surface of everything that has been going on just this week alone.
