Xoom Corporation Extends International Money Transfers to Red Pocket Subscribers

Digital money transfer provider Xoom Corporation has entered into a partnership with Red Pocket Mobile, a contract-free wireless service provider. Under this partnership, Red Pocket subscribers will receive integrated access to Xoom’s mobile and desktop global money transfer sites.

As such, Red Pocket subscribers can immediately initiate an international money transfer to friends and family in over 30 countries — including Latin America, the Philippines, India, Europe, Canada, Australia and South Africa — through both the Xoom and Red Pocket websites from any smartphone, tablet or PC.

This is just the latest in a recent string of moves that have better positioned Xoom in the growing mobile commerce space in which transactions are expected to exceed $3.2 trillion by 2017, according to Juniper Research. In June, for example, the company released money transfer apps for both Android and iOS devices. One month later, Xoom began providing international remittance services for mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) on the Sprint network.

“Partnering with Red Pocket further propels Xoom’s expansion into the mobile domain,” said Julian King, senior vice president of Marketing and Corporate Development for Xoom, in a statement. “Red Pocket has become known for exceptional mobile service that includes many loyal subscribers in America’s immigrant population who still have strong ties to family and friends in their home countries. At Xoom, we’re changing the way money transfers have typically been done by offering our customers a digital service on desktop and mobile that is safe, convenient and very fast.”

Red Pocket Mobile operates throughout the United States — including Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands — as an MVNO on “the nation’s best wireless networks.” The operator focuses on providing unlimited and pay-as-you-go wireless plans.

Between July 2012 and June 30, 2013, Xoom’s user base of over 915,000 active customers sent more than $4.3 billion to recipients worldwide.
