Chase Secures Third Consecutive 'Keynote Mobile Banking Scorecard' Win

Internet and mobile cloud testing and monitoring provider Keynote has announced the results of its “Keynote Mobile Banking Scorecard” for spring of 2013. The study measured a set of 120 objectives, including ease-of-use, security, quality and functionality for the included banks’ iPhone app, Android app, Blackberry app, text and mobile Web.

Amongst the 15 large banks scored by Keynote, Chase took the top honors for the third consecutive time. It’s not just the big banks that are offering great mobile banking opportunities to their customers: Keynote’s study noted that, while the big banks were the ones leading the pack for app banking, smaller, regional banks were actually ahead of the large banks when it came to text banking. 

Susan Foulds, manager of the Keynote Mobile Banking Scorecard, noted that text banking is “relatively limited” in its capabilities, but that it “continues to serve a purpose for quick balance and transaction inquiries without requiring customers to sign in with their credentials.” 

Big banks, Foulds says, are largely focused on “expanding functionality for mobile banking beyond the basics initially released two to three years ago, especially for smartphone apps.” Blackberry users may be disappointed by the findings of the study—she went on to note that, while mobile banking keeps improving for users of smartphones and tablets, most of the banks offering Blackberry apps are not updating them.

The results of the study have not changed much since the results released for their last “Mobile Banking Scorecard” in November of 2012, which also showed Chase to be the top contender. Large banks lead in app banking and small banks lead in text banking, with Blackberry apps flagging. Only time will tell whether or not some of the other 14 large banks that scored, including Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Fifth Third Bank and USAA, among others, will set their sights on stripping Chase of its title when the results of the next study are released.
