Splash Mobile Money, MoreMagic Solutions Look Beyond Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone may not be known for being technologically advanced, but Splash Mobile Money Limited and MoreMagic Solutions have been providing it with the ability to make payments for its satellite television subscriptions from its citizens’ mobile phones.

The program has been so successful that Splash and MoreMagic are hoping to use it as a model for Africa and deploy it throughout the continent.

With more than four million DStv subscribers in over 40 countries, this has the potential to make the lives of many easier.

In the past (and in countries where the new system has not yet been put in place), customers must queue up at their DStv location to top up their account. With the system, successfully deployed in Sierra Leone, customers can now have their accounts credited immediately by making payments via their mobile device.

Daniel Osei-Antwi, MD, Splash Mobile Money Limited, cited a “richer experience” for their customers as the Splash ecosystem expands in a recent statement. “We are delighted that the flexibility of MoreMagic’s platform has not only allowed us to scale,” he said, “but has also enabled us to expand our portfolio of services by introducing new stakeholders to our ecosystems.”

He alluded to “compelling opportunities for growth” beyond Sierra Leone in “the near future.”

MoreMagic CEO Pankaj Gulati shared Osei-Antwi’s delight, clearly proud to be the technology provider behind Splash, which he said represents “one of the few examples of a Mobile Money service that is available to all mobile customers across a country, irrespective of their service provider.”

Gulati sees many benefits to broadening ecosystems and encouraging interoperability, stating that it will benefit “not only the consumer, but the mobile operators, banks and merchants.”

Thanks to Splash Mobile Money and MoreMagic Solutions, people across Africa will soon be able to benefit from the services that users in Sierra Leone have been enjoying.
