Though roughly a month old, the unique Video World Conference & Expo has attracted top flight industry executives from Level 3 Communications, Limelight Networks, Vidtel, Blue Jeans Network, RCR Wireless and DYN to the event's speaker roster, with many more on deck.
Sony announced today it will buy the game streaming service Gaikai, in a deal valued at $380 million dollars. Gaikai is a United States-based firm that deals in streaming games over the Internet. The purchase was made by Sony's video game arm in a bid to help Sony make the migration to game delivery systems that no longer require discs.
Lately it seems that there is just as much drama behind cable networks and cable service providers as there are on the addictive TV series they are providing. AMC, the company behind "The Walking Dead" and "Mad Men" is letting cable providers know what's at stake for crossing them. And because Dish Network could not reach an agreement with AMC, Dish customers could be out of luck before "Breaking Bad" begins its new season July 15th.
It's been a big week for online video. Anaheim California played host to VidCon, the industry convention for the budding industry. Simultaneously, X Games Los Angeles made the dreams of an entirely different subculture come true.
